Self-Anointing Behavior: This is a behavior where the monkey rubs a source of strong odor such as: onions, orange juice, ect. all over it's body with it's hands. One explanation of this behavior, is that in the wild these strong odors acts as an insecticide.
Banging of Objects: Usually done on a hard surface. Capuchins have
exhibited this behavior with many different objects. It is done perhaps to attract attention, in anticipation for food, or even as a display of power.
Continual Scratching: Using both the hands and the feet, to scratch any part of its body. This behavior is different from grooming. The reason for such behavior is unclear, but may be due to stress.
Display: This is a pattern or sequence of behavior it is the social communication in monkeys. Much of visual communication in capuchins involves (display) facial expression. Sometimes just knowing these can help with knowing when you'll be attacked.
RELAXED FACE: your monkey is doing nothing.
ALERT FACE: Is witnessed during grooming, mounting, fleeing, or non aggressive approach.
STARING WITH OPEN MOUTH: In the wild it is performed by the dominant monkey in an attack.
TENSE MOUTH FACE: It occurs during attack situation also called aggressive threat.
STARING WITH BARED TEETH: Usually a response to an attack.
FROWNING BARED TEETH: Made at the end of a conflict usually by the less dominant monkey.
SILENT BARED TEETH: May alternated with, or occur during fleeing, avoidance or approach.
LIP-SMACKING FACE: A passive behavior occurring between animals and owners in established relationships.
TEETH CHATTERING FACE: A friendly greeting.
POUTING LIPS FACE: Occurs when an individual is separated from it's loved one. Often it is accompanied by an "oooo" sound.
RELAXED OPEN MOUTH FACE: Playful.
TONGUE TIP EXPOSED: A display of friendship and playfulness seen in captive capuchins.
FOREHEAD AND EYEBROWS RAISED: An invitation to establish contact usually directed towards strangers they are unsure of.
SHAKING OF THE HEAD: getting nervous or playing.
