Jenn,

Zoe is jealous that Molly is going to have her own room.

If this is a room that Molly spends time in unsupervised, you may want to cover the walls with a durable, easy to clean surface. Zoe's cage is by neccesity in a corner of the living room. I put up fiberglass paneling to protect the sheetrock which I knew she would destroy. I screwed it into the studs with short sheet rock screws. Originally, I caulked the seams, but she pulled it all out. If I did it again, I wouldn't bother.

Have you considered adding a screen door to the room so she could look out and you could hear what she is up to? You may need to cover it with wire mesh for re-inforcement. Also, you may want to put some type of mesh over the window to protect the glass from breakage from flying toys and rough play.

When you buy new floor covering, avoid the textured stuff, it traps mess and germs. The cheap smooth linoleum is easiler to clean and sanitize.

Zoe likes her high shelf, where she can take her fuzzy to sleep. It is about 6' above the floor and she likes the warmth up there.

More later.

I gave my munk half of a small room for his cage. I put linoleum on the floor and calked well as I installed a standard rubberized baseboard molding (4"). My first attempt at wall covering was a good vinyl wallpaper, which was scrubbable, but unfortunately, the slightest pinhole gave Jess a place to start, and I found him riding strips of my wallpaper from the top to the floor! I finally got a really good mastic and glued linoleum on the walls! It works great. Very tough, looks really good (I used a nice stone pattern, but later saw a vine pattern I would have really liked.) It cleans like magic and doesn't retain odors. I used a really good wire mesh on the open side, using those great plastic "wire ties" (What did we do before those were invented...like post-ems!) to secure the mesh to an aluminum pipe frame. Rigid and everything scrubbable, but also is resilient enough for a good bounce when we're richocheting around the room! I wanted Jess to share the rest of the house, too, so I installed two large windows in a corner, one looking out on my living room, directly beside my computer, where I spend a lot of time, and the other looking into the dining room and kitchen, where there's also a lot of action. I purchased the heaviest automotive windshield glass and had it cut to size, and left an eight inch meshed opening below each window for communication, treats, threats, whatever. As I am working at my desk in the evening, Jess comes over and holds hands! He has several wire shelves and a bed corner. He has one outside window, which I covered with mesh, but have a little rod so I can open it. All in all, it worked real well. I am in the process now of replacing what little wood molding and so on with aluminum or at least shielding it with aluminum molding. Anything wood is impossible and certainly unsanitary.
I hope this helps, keep posting progress! Thanks to everyone for this wonderful website. It's so much help and so much fun.

The half-room approach works, since Jess can't have run of the whole house, so he gets the treat of being "out" in the other half when I'm working in his cage, and we have a social hour at night when he feels free. I have mesh in the outside door as well.

1) what kind of monkey do you have, how old is she and how long have you had her.
2) any future plans to get a companion
3) is there water/drainage supply near by
4) what is your budget

things to consider:
waterproof the floor (ceramic tile with water proof membrane)
line the walls with exterior, water resistant 3/4" plywood
install drain, hose and utility sink
use double door entrance
install shelves near the windows
build a frame using aluminum tubing and cover it with wire mesh for use around the windows.
add skylights, outside porch
install a large internal 'viewing' window so that she can look inside
Use only commercial products,
Good luck, my first 'indestructable' monkey room lasted only 5 years. I Had to redo most of it with commercial grade products. I have two Java Macaques. need I say more.

I think your should paint it like a bright yellow and paint green trees on the wall. That way she will feel like she is in a forest of something. It would look neat too. And you can hang things from the roof and etc. Well I hope I helped although I didn't give much advise. :o)
