Comments On: What Did You Use??
From: OWL on 04/22/97Hey guys!! Just a quick servey here, joe says we may be able to get a monk sooner than we expected!! YEAH!! So, want to start gathering things will need for her!! More than likely will be a cinnamon cap. so please focus sizes to that. What i'd like to know is:
What did ya use to put baby in when was takin shower, or things like that when couldn't be holding it? My ideas were a large parrot breeding cage (wires 1X2) or a large dog taxi like we carry Tuvok to the vets in.. Would something else be better suited or are these too big or small?
I've been told puppy nursers are the best size bottles, any others?
How many cuddlies do you offer one that small when not holdin it?
And What size and kind of diapers did you use? doll's or premie/newborn?
Thanks and look forward (impatientsly of course haha) to your responses!! OWL

From: Terri on 04/25/97Get a cage right from the start....if for no other reason than that you want the monkey to get used to it and be comfortable with it so that when you have to cage your baby, it will be confortabel and enjoy the experience. A Large Bird cage is fine, but make sure that the monkey will not get any body parts stuck in the openings. Also you may have to modify the closures, monkeys can get out of things birds can not.
As for diapers, you can get a premie diaper and usually cut it into four diapers when they are small and then later on two diapers and eventually they will wear the whole premie diaper at once. But even a large supply does not go to waste, you just don't cut too many at once so you can keep using them as they grow.
Also be prepared to hold the baby alot, remember that the mother monkey does not let the baby out of her reach for a long, long time. You can modify a baby carrier, one of those loose bags that you can hang around your neck.....then close off the leg holes. This keeps the baby close to your body for secure to the baby and to you. They will play, sleep and eat in this sack if you let them, and you both bond alot quicker this way. Look at alot of baby and toddler toys and items and always look at them with "how can I modify this to work" in mind.
Good Luck!

From: Sony on 05/07/97My monkeys all use regular baby bottles, it is easier to find them and I use the newborn Gerber nipples that are smaller than regular baby nipples - these nipples are much harder to bite through than the puppy nursers and they are cheaper to buy! I offered all of mine different "security" stuffed animals, that way when one wears out and you want to throw it away they will not mind if they are used to taking any one you offer them. Stock up on alot of educational Fisher Price and Little Tykes toys! At age 6 months I use Huggies Ultra Trim diapers in the 1/2 size, they fit real nice. I used to order Preemies from Pampers but find that the ones with the elastic legs are much nicer at preventing leaks and accidents!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!! But , unfortunately, things didnt' turn out as expected,,, due to greater financial difficulties, we will not be getting a monk for some time to come now. And as a result, will are being forced to sell several of our feathered friends to compensate. So, if anyone knows of persons looking for breeder age Male amazons ( lilac crown, mexican red-head, or orange wing), please let me know or send them my addy. Thank you for all your time and replies, i have written them all down for future use.

From: Monkeying Around on 05/02/01It's beyond me how you are going to sqeeze a banana into a baby bottle!!! Pure insanity.
You can do that god dammed monkey a big favor by sending the dam thing back to Africa to go find its own wild bananas.
