Woodstock, yeah I'd like to go back to Woodstock, it was a long time ago, but yeah I'd go. No not that Woodstock, "Frisky's" in Woodstock, Maryland, the Wildlife & Primate Sanctuary that we send a check to every other month! Oh, yeah that sounds great, we can finally meet Colleen Layton & Scott Robbins and all the monks that we read about in the newsletter. Well the conversation went something like that when we were trying to plan our summer vacation.

So on June 29th we arrived on Frisky's doorstep, of course Colleen took my letter litarally and expected us in July, so we were only two days early, and it was the same week. Okay I guess we are a little weird but maybe it was the Woodstock connection that makes us weird.

The surprise didn't slow Coleen down much she didn't miss a beat during her very busy day, all was clean and well maintained. When we arrived they had 5 adult macaques, 4 adult capuchins, 2 adult vervet monkeys and 7 squirrel monkeys. They were in various cages in the monkey house and the main house. They also had various wildlife, such as raccoons, rabbits and birds, waiting to be well enough to be released into the wild. They had a lamma, various chickens, ducks, geese, and goats. They also have received various dogs and cats, most from the elderly in the area who are unable to keep these pets any longer. Colleen doesn't turn any animal away, no matter what it is or what it needs, it is always welcome at Frisky's, if she can't keep them herself, she will find someone else who is willing to take it.

So we spent our week, talking monkeys, cleaning monkey messes, playing with monkeys, visiting with monkeys, feeding monkeys, looking at monkey pictures, telling monkey stories, and just having a great time with our favorite pastime, MONKEYS! Can't wait till we get another vacation, so we can go back and visit our friends at FRISKY"S.

The new Macaque House was under construction, it looks like it will be a great palce for the monks, I can't wait to hear that it is complete. Funds are still needed to finsih this project, because like our vacation and everything else, it went over budget. If you haven't helped yet, PLEASE, PLEASE send a check!!! The monks will love you for it!

If you haven't vacationed yet, take my word for it, a working vacation at your favorite Primate Sanctuary is a great idea!!! For those of use who no longer have primates of our own, it is great fun and brings back many happy memories or our own babies. If you don't have a favorite Primate Sanctuary, try mine, it's great.

Frisky's receives no county, state or federal funding, they survive only on donations. Donations are always needed and welcome, donors will be put on the mailing list for the newsletter and will recieve pictures of the monkeys and critters. If your not a cash kind of person, don't feel left out, feel free to send a care package to the monks, you all know what they like, heavy duty toys, blankets, baby bottles, nipples, etc. Don't forget the cleaning supplies, cleaning rags, rubber gloves, live traps, kennel cages and all those human things! Of course treats are always welcome!

We have been told the monks were spoiled after we left, but I don't believe this for a minute, they were spoiled when we arrived!!!!

Hi, I was hoping someone could give me some information on what would happen if I went away for a 2 week holiday every year and left my squirrel monkey with a sitter.I don't own a squirrel monkey yet as I can't find enough information on how to care for them properly. But I will be getting one and I'm curious to know what would happen if I went on holidays abrod for 2 weeks as I want to avoid upsetting him.

If somebody could tell me what would happen I would be very thankful,
and also if anybody has any information on how to look after squirrel monkeys I'd be delighted to hear it.
THANK YOU.
