Comments On: Want A Monkey!

Looking for a Macaque. I have began to read and collect information on owning a primate. I am
not 100% sure a Macaque is the right breed for me. I live in Texas,and understand that Snow
Monkeys are thriving just south of here. I plan to visit the home of a couple that sell Macaques
next weekend. I will need to build an indoor cage in a spare room. Any Advice.

I have raised two macaques for the last 9 years and am a member of the Simian Society of America. Before you do anything (don't rush into it), talk to alot of primate owners who keep the particular species you are thinking of 'adopting' in a 'private' setting (everyone has their own story). Try and find the owners who have mature monkeys (it can be difficult, male macaques grow until their 8 or 9). Consider how much time, money, space and energy you can provide this creature. It is a very big committment (30 years) which is full of highs and lows. Approach it the same way you would consider adopting a child (it is a labor of love).

UK based - my friend has a male squirrel monkey desperately seeking a mate, on breeding terms or any other way. The rest of the family consists of elderly female squirrel monkeys.

I would be most grateful for information about a mate for JoJo, or suggestions as to how I might find one.
